St. Josephs Catholic College Katherine eNewsletter Term 3 - Week 10
Principal's Message
Dear Staff, Parents / Carers and Students,
As we approach the Term 3 holidays, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support and collaboration we’ve experienced throughout this busy term. Your dedication has played a crucial role in creating a positive and enriching environment for our students.
This year, we celebrated 25 years of the Colleges Secondary school foundation marking a significant milestone in our community. We had the privilege of celebrating this through mass with Bishop Charles.
We were also given this week an amazing opportunity for our students to learn about Blessed Carlos Acutis. Carlos was a remarkable young man who devoted his life to sharing his faith through technology and helping others. His example continues to inspire many.
I also want to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of our students in various sports, including athletics and AFL. Their hard work and determination have truly shone this term, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.
As we take this break, let us reflect on our journey of faith. May we find time to deepen our relationship with God and nurture our spiritual lives, embracing the teachings of Jesus in our daily actions. Simple acts of kindness, compassion, and understanding can make a significant impact in the lives of others. Whether it's helping a friend in need, volunteering, or simply offering a listening ear, we can embody the teachings of Jesus in our everyday interactions.
Wishing you all a restful holiday filled with joy, peace, and renewal. Thank you again for your unwavering support!
Peace and best wishes,
Sunniva Antonucci

Science Week Celebration
Year 10 and 11 students attended Katherine Research Station as part of Science Week Celebrations. There was an underlying focus on Biosecurity Research that is conducted at the research station.
The students had the opportunity to "choose their own adventure" and engage with a series of workshops with a focus on their areas of interest in either Livestock, Horticulture or Molecular Biology.
Many of the workshops were hands-on, allowing the students to further extend and apply the knowledge that they have developed during their education and explore the real world applications of impacts of scientific research.
Year 11 Bake Sale for the Vinnies Food Drive
The Year 11 Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning (SRM) class recently had a bake sale on Monday, the 16th of September 2024, to support the VInnies Christmas Food Drive. Thanks to the commendable effort of both the Year 11 students and the St Joey's community, over $261 were raised for this worthy cause.
A special thank you goes out to everyone who donated baked goods, from cookies and cupcakes to delicious lemon meringue pies and vanilla slices. Your generosity made this fundraiser a success! Heartfelt thanks goes also to our dedicated staff who assisted the Year Elevens with planning, running and promoting this event.
The money raised is going directly to the St Vincent de Paul Society to provide local families with food and essentials this upcoming festive season, helping to spread Christmas cheer.

Year 9/10 Food Technology
The practical assessment for term 3, 2024 has been completed by the Food Technology classes in years 9 and 10. Their task was to organise an event for our ISAs during ISA Appreciation Week, which would meet a variety of dietary needs. The students were given the task of creating a project plan for a "tea party" as if they were a catering business. Based on individually selected dietary requirements, students in both classes prepared a meal. After that, the students shared their creations with the ISAs. We are incredibly appreciative of the year-round assistance our ISA's provide
